What We Do

Education and Knowledge

Practical resources, when and where you need them.

NITER develops and publishes free educational content designed specifically for the frontline. Our resources draw on the latest research in human performance, psychological resilience, decision-making under pressure, and harm prevention — and are written to be accessible, not academic.

Resources cover: suicide and self-harm prevention  |  emotional and physical abuse  |  substance use and misuse  |  psychological trauma and PTSD  |  decision-making in high-stress environments  |  personal and organisational resilience

All resources are free to access and distribute within your organisation.

Analysis and White Paper

Independent evaluation of the evidence that matters to frontline service communities.

NITER draws on expert knowledge and the best available published evidence to produce practical assessments of the issues most affecting frontline service personnel. Our white papers are designed to translate that expertise into usable outcomes — informing policy, improving training and driving organisational change.

Accessible Research

Important findings shouldn’t sit behind a paywall or a jargon barrier.

The evidence that matters most to frontline service communities is often locked in academic journals or written in language that isn’t practical for operational environments. NITER translates significant published findings into plain-language summaries and practical guides — and makes them free to download and share.

We monitor new and emerging published evidence in our priority areas and publish accessible summaries on a regular basis.

Expert Evaluation for Real world Impact

NITER’s work is shaped by the needs of frontline service communities. We focus on issues where clear, practical guidance is lacking — drawing on the best available published evidence and applied expert knowledge to produce assessments that can be acted on.

Our assessments are produced with independent oversight and a commitment to transparency. All outputs are published freely and made available in accessible formats.

Current Project

CAPACITY - Perform When It Counts. Capacity Development for Frontline Recruits

Understanding how your body and mind respond under pressure isn’t a welfare initiative — it’s a performance edge. NITER’s Capacity program translates published evidence on stress physiology, cognitive performance and technical skill retention into practical frameworks for recruits. Delivered across eight monthly sessions, it builds the mental, physiological and technical foundations that training alone doesn’t cover.

Evidence Summaries

NITER will publish plain-language summaries of significant published evidence in our priority areas. These summaries are designed to be practical and usable by frontline personnel and their organisations without requiring academic expertise.

Priority areas: Suicide and self-harm prevention  |  Psychological trauma and PTSD  |  Decision-making under pressure  |  Substance use in service communities  |  Physical and emotional abuse
